made me chuckle
Now I think a scratch DJ (like the ones at DMC world championships) is another kind of musician. But definitely talented, has a good ear for sound and uses what is available as an instrument.
If I were to say digital artists are not artists because they don't conform to analogue mediums then I would just be short-sighted.
But imagine going to an art opening where the artist just showed you other artists' paintings and said "Oooh and isn't this one cool, too?"
Wait a minute... that's a good idea.
I mean, I don't go to a club and credit the DJ with making all the tracks they play.
I can name several DJs.
At the risk of making this discussion too long/boring, I agree that if we talk about producers like Deadmau5 or Bloody Beetroots, they make their stuff before performing and then it appears they just fiddle with the knobs on the mixers at live shows. People like Kid Koala or Qbert obviously perform the entire way through.
If we talk about a club/bar DJ then I honestly couldn't name any except the one I got lessons from. Same as a gallery organiser, though I would say mixing takes a lot more skill than hanging up a painting.
Conclusion = DJ's > Gallery Organisers.
